◎   Izmir, Turkey — Connected Globally

Izmir-based. Internationally experienced.

Özgören Law Firm is an international arbitration boutique founded by Selin Özgören and based in Izmir, Turkey. While rooted in one of Turkey's most dynamic commercial cities — a major Aegean port with deep trade ties to Europe, the Middle East, and beyond — the firm's work is global in scope and clientele.

Selin Özgören advises clients across borders on international commercial arbitration, investment treaty arbitration, and cross-border dispute resolution. Her experience spans proceedings before the world's leading arbitral institutions and encompasses both common law and civil law jurisdictions.

Her professional background includes work at the UNCITRAL Secretariat in Vienna (contributing to ISDS reform in Working Group III), case administration at the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC), arbitration work at a Milan-based law firm, and cross-border regulatory matters at Allen & Overy and Baker McKenzie. She has also worked on proceedings before federal authorities in New York and California.

She holds an LL.M. from Bocconi University (full scholarship), where her thesis examined the intersection of sustainable development and international investment arbitration, and an LL.B. from Ankara University Faculty of Law, including an Erasmus year at the University of Bologna.

Being based in Izmir rather than Istanbul is a deliberate choice — offering clients a focused, partner-led service without the overhead of a large firm, while remaining equally accessible to international clients across time zones.

"Advising clients across borders on international commercial arbitration, investment law, and trade matters with experiences across Europe, Asia, Africa and North America."

Why an Izmir-based lawyer
for international disputes

01

Boutique Focus, Undivided Attention

As a specialist boutique, Özgören Law Firm takes on a focused caseload — meaning clients receive dedicated, unhurried attention on their matter rather than being one of hundreds of files at a large firm. Every engagement is treated as a priority.

02

Global Network, Boutique Focus

Izmir-based does not mean locally limited. The firm draws on a global network of specialist counsel to assemble project-based international teams for complex disputes — bringing the right expertise wherever the arbitration is seated.

03

Cross-Time-Zone Accessibility

Turkey's time zone (UTC+3) places Izmir naturally between European, Middle Eastern, and Asian business hours. For international clients across multiple jurisdictions, this makes coordination straightforward and responsive.

Questions about working with an Izmir-based arbitration lawyer

If your question isn't answered here, reach out directly.

What are Özgören Law Firm's focus areas?
The firm focuses on international commercial arbitration, investment treaty arbitration, cross-border advisory, and tribunal secretary services. It is particularly well-positioned to assist in disputes involving Turkey or Turkish counterparties, proceedings governed by Turkish law, and matters where bilingual English–Turkish legal expertise is required.
Is Selin Özgören admitted to the Turkish bar?
Yes. Selin Özgören is admitted to the Izmir Bar Association and is fully qualified to practise Turkish law. She also has extensive experience in international proceedings under common law and civil law frameworks, making her equally comfortable in cross-jurisdictional matters.
Do you work with co-counsel in other jurisdictions?
Yes — and this is a core part of the firm's model. For disputes that require expertise in multiple jurisdictions, Özgören Law Firm assembles project-based international teams through its global network of specialist counsel. This allows clients to benefit from coordinated, multilateral representation without the costs of engaging a large multinational firm for the entire matter.
What languages does the firm work in?
The firm works primarily in English and Turkish. Selin Özgören is a sworn Turkish–English translator certified by the Turkish Ministry of Justice, which means she can also assist with certified legal translation in addition to substantive legal advice — a useful capability in Turkey-related arbitrations where documents exist in both languages.
